On June 26, local time, the Confucius Institute at Al-Quds University held a colorful Chinese cultural experience activity for the summer camp group for middle school students in Palestine.

The members of the summer camp group consisted of 19 sophomore students from College Des Deres Middle School in Palestine. At the beginning, the Chinese teacher played the video "Beautiful China" and introduced the beauty of China through five colors. The students were enthusiastic and actively interacted with the teachers.

Before the calligraphy experience began, the teacher briefly explained the evolution of and the characteristics of Chinese characters to students, and aroused their interest and enthusiasm by writing image characters such as "mountain", "water" and "sun". Afterwards, the teacher distributed brushes and other utensils to the students, and let them learn the basic posture of holding a pen first. Soon the students were eager to try it out and could not wait to write their first Chinese characters.

Then, through the video "A Pair of Chopsticks", the students learned that chopsticks are not only tableware for Chinese food, but also carry the Chinese people's emotions for thousands of years, such as cultural inheritance, care for their families, thoughts of the deceased, and harmony among neighbors. The five-minute short film, the students watched with relish, and even wept. Afterwards, the teacher patiently instructed the students to use chopsticks correctly. Most of the students quickly mastered the use of chopsticks. After some attempt, the teacher sent some beans for the students to practice. Some students were happy to show off their beans with chopsticks, while others were in a hurry when they couldn't. The classroom suddenly became lively up. Finally, group C students stood out and won the championship through the competition "clip beans with chopsticks".

Finally, the Chinese teacher played the video "The Evolution of Chinese Clothing" to show the students the evolution of women's makeup and clothes from the pre-Qin period to modern times. The students applauded the beauty. The teacher also prepared several sets of traditional Chinese costumes for the students to try them on and take photos after the event. It was the first time for the students of the summer camp to get up close to China. After the activity, they were reluctant to leave.

The students fully felt the charm of Chinese culture through this activity, which enhanced the cultural exchanges between China and Palestine, and opened up more space for the future development of Palestinian students.

CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE

As China's economy and exchanges with the world have seen rapid growth, there has also been a sharp increase in the world's demands for Chinese learning. Benefiting from the UK, France, Germany and Spain's experience in promoting their national languages, China began its own exploration through establishing non-profit public institutions which aim to promote Chinese language and culture in foreign countries in 2004: these were given the name the Confucius Institute.
