On May 8, 2019, Mark Elliott, Vice Provost of International Affairs at Harvard University, also an expert in Chinese studies paid a visit to Confucius Institute after hearing that Chinese language courses are available in Al-Quds University.

Accompanied by vice president Dr. Hanna Abdel Nour, Mark Elliott had a discussion with the Chinese teachers about Chinese teaching in the university.

Dr. Hanna revealed that, based on the current Chinese courses as University Electives, Al-Quds University intends to open higher level Chinese courses in the form of "Chinese plus major".

"I wish more progress for Chinese teaching in Palestine", said Mark Elliot. He encouraged local students to study hard and wished them academic success in an inscription written in Chinese.

CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE

As China's economy and exchanges with the world have seen rapid growth, there has also been a sharp increase in the world's demands for Chinese learning. Benefiting from the UK, France, Germany and Spain's experience in promoting their national languages, China began its own exploration through establishing non-profit public institutions which aim to promote Chinese language and culture in foreign countries in 2004: these were given the name the Confucius Institute.
