Confucius Institute at Al-Quds University holds annual council meeting

On 8 January, the Confucius Institute at Al-Quds University held its annual council meeting by video link. The council considered and approved the 2023 work report, 2024 work plan, operating budget, and other proposals, discussed the key work, and reached a consensus.

At the council meeting, Zhou Lisheng, Vice President of Jiangxi Normal University, Imad F. S. Abukishek, President of Al-Quds University, Moatasem Hamdan, Vice President of Al-Quds University, Shadi H. H. Abuzarqa, Director of Confucius Institute, and Ghassan Al-Deek, Dean of Enrollment and Registration College, AQU, focused on the application for the undergraduate major in Chinese language, expanding the Chinese language teaching partners, cultivating local Chinese language teachers, strengthening the exchange of teachers and students between the two universities, the Chinese dean's rotation, and resumption of face-to-face teaching, etc. Both sides agreed to overcome difficulties, strengthen the brand-building of the Confucius Institute, and promote educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

As China's economy and exchanges with the world have seen rapid growth, there has also been a sharp increase in the world's demands for Chinese learning. Benefiting from the UK, France, Germany and Spain's experience in promoting their national languages, China began its own exploration through establishing non-profit public institutions which aim to promote Chinese language and culture in foreign countries in 2004: these were given the name the Confucius Institute.
